Kicking 2023 Into High Gear: Now Presenting, 13th Gen Intel® Core™ Processors and 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors

A Resolution to Transform the Customer Experience

Like a lot of others, entering the new year excites me. It’s nice to reflect on the last year and get energized for whatever is coming in the next 3-6-5.

Most of all, there’s an ambition to do more and do it better than we have before. Which is also how Intel feels as we kick off fiscal year 2023.

This month, Intel unveiled its 13th Gen Intel® Core™ processor Family as well as our new, 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors. Today’s industries, especially consumer industries are in need of a digital, borderless strategy. Actually, by 2025, over 75% of enterprise-managed data will be created and processed outside of data centers or cloud (Forbes, 2021). Organizations need to be focusing on technology at the edge.

It actually pays off to. According to a Microsoft report, retailers who analyze data from multiple touchpoints could potentially capture an additional USD 94B in revenue (Microsoft, 2018).

Creating solutions that meet the demands of today and tomorrow’s market is a key commitment of ours, so we can keep supporting the technological advancement of our customers to improve, scale, or optimize their businesses.

Enter this latest gen of processors, which is bringing highly relevant value to the modern business. They offer more built-in AI acceleration and network-optimized performance, including industrial-grade features in a range of specs best suited for individual business needs. They may also make deployment faster by integrating with existing infrastructures.

And we’re proud of how these devices are already in action and how they’re helping Intel customers to be more digitally competitive, meet market and consumer demands, and create seamless experiences.

Let this be the motivation your organization needs to rethink what you’re capable of accomplishing in 2023.

Meet the growing 13th Gen Intel® Core™ processor family

The Intel® Core™ processor family is well-loved for its versatility and performance. And now, 13th generation Intel® Core™ processors makes designing and deploying IoT Edge applications easier than ever before. Here’s what you can expect:

  • LGA socket scalability with more cores, cache, and diverse platform choices
  • Immersive interactions with integrated graphics and accelerated AI
  • More workloads and more expansion
  • Ready for IoT applications /deployment

This 13th generation creates a wider range of options for ultra-flexible configurations fit for any environment, and increases what you can accomplish with improved multitasking, faster memory, TCC and TSN. The 13th Gen Intel mobile processors also feature extended temperature operations on select SKUs, and higher-performing CPUs for the most demanding environments and improved graphics and accelerated AI. These new processors can also provide better workload consolidation with more cores and threads, enabling more applications to run on a single device.

With a powerhouse Intel® Iris® Xe graphics engine featuring up to 96 graphics execution units (EUs) and industrial-grade features, the 13th Gen Intel Core Mobile processors support AI and video, for ruggedized deployments in the harshest conditions.

So now, retail and hospitality customers can have enhanced video walls, digital signage, AI-driven in-store advertising, and interactive flat panel displays (IFPDs) to keep up with their customers’ desires for digital experiences, in store. Not only do those experiences drive sales with effective advertising, but they’re a more cost-effective method for reaching customers across locations, in a visually rich format.

How Hellometer revolutionizes the fast food experience

Speed of service is fast food's core value proposition. Despite this, most franchise owners don't have a cost-effective or reliable way to measure it. And that could cost them business. For instance, if it takes a guest 15 minutes to get their meal, they might leave a bad review; in which case, the operator would be lucky because at least they’ll know and can do something about it. But most guests don’t leave reviews. Instead, they just won’t come back.

Across fast food, but in the drive-thru especially, time is of the essence. If a line is too long, guests will drive past and find something to eat elsewhere. That’s why fast-food brands are utilizing Hellometer’s computer vision-based restaurant automation solution, which uses our previous generation of Intel Core mobile processor with built-in AI accelerator DL Boost and OpenVINO. Franchisee operators are able to learn how to optimize their guest experience and get meals out swiftly.

Hellometer is actively developing onto the 13th gen Intel Core i7 processor and so far, they have seen nearly a 7% increase* in inference speed over the 12th Gen Intel Core processor.

“The latest 13th gen Intel Core mobile processor enables us to add an extra video stream increasing our ability to process customer data by over 30% for real time inferencing without any discrete AI accelerator. As the needs of fast food restaurants grow, for example, adding curbside pickup or a dual drive-thru lane, more camera streams are required to provide a complete picture of the guest experience.” - Alexander Popper, Founder and CEO of Hellometer

The thing is, restaurants using Hellometer aren’t trying to completely reinvent the wheel—they're improving it. By increasing speed and quality, they can create an overall better product and experience. Doesn’t food taste better when your order is fast and fresh?

Hellometer shows us that innovation isn’t about how much deep tech and AI you can cram into your business, it’s about how you apply it to directly solve the fundamental needs of your customers and industry. That’s true innovation.

“Service excellence is at the heart of our business. This is why we are excited about the impact Hellometer and Intel will have. The ability to understand each guests’ experience (whether in-store or at the drive-thru) is the future of winning service speed. What makes Hellometer and Intel so exciting is that it’s easy to adopt, gives our restaurants a leg up in driving throughput today, while providing a holistic AI strategy for computer vision technology as they continue to innovate going forward.” - Marlin Dively, IT Director at Restaurant Management Corp (a franchisee of Hardee’s Food Systems)

Meanwhile, Intel Atom® processors x7000E Series, Intel Core i3 and Intel Processors N Series bring deep learning inference, graphics and media processing from our most-power-efficient processors for IoT edge native applications. These processors are used in retail signages, kiosks, point of sale systems, and even safety and security applications.

Meet 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors

We also recently unveiled Intel’s newest 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors. These are now our most powerful edge compute processors, consolidating real-time video analytics, AI, and other demanding edge workloads in single, dual or multi-socket designs. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Accelerate your most advanced edge workloads, including AI
  • Help protect your data with security technologies and innovate with confidence4
  • Achieve more-flexible and reliable deployments

4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors deliver increased performance over its prior generation, breakthrough memory and I/O capabilities, power efficiencies and new built-in accelerators like Intel AMX to accelerate AI inferencing applications. For industries that are struggling with a lack of workforce, while consumer and market demands continue to surge, this ability to streamline workflows saves time, money, and fatigue across existing employees.

Retail solutions can also achieve improved workload consolidation on one Xeon system for a more centralized approach to the retail landscape and tasks. Responsive experiences in retail leveraging AI video analytics to find empty shelves quicker, understand consumer behavior, and prevent theft. Hardware-enabled AI acceleration on the CPU with new acceleration engine in Intel® DL boost (Intel AMX) allows for fast AI model training and inference. A single Xeon platform is capable of running all these functions to create a frictionless retail experience, end to end.

Now, organizations can support their workloads for today and in the future, with Intel’s extensive ecosystem of partners and up to 52 cores to help consolidate workloads for edge server, video analytics, and industrial-focused IoT applications while streamlining inbound data flows.

4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors offer a long supply life and high reliability for industrial use conditions, in addition to overall G2G performance improvement, accelerators, memory and more. IoT SKUs also feature long-life availability to help drive exceptional value from your investments.
