Cohesity and Intel collaborate to enhance data security with confidential computing

The partnership aims to address a significant cybersecurity concern for Chief Information Officers

Cohesity has partnered with Intel to integrate Intel’s confidential computing features into the Cohesity Data Cloud. This collaboration, combined with Fort Knox, Cohesity’s advanced cyber vault service, introduces a groundbreaking data-in-use encryption solution to the data management sector.

This alliance aims to address a significant cybersecurity concern for Chief Information Officers (CIOs). Traditionally, safeguarding data in use during active processing in memory has been challenging, potentially leaving it unencrypted and susceptible to internal threats.

Intel’s Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX) for confidential computing will empower Cohesity customers to mitigate risks associated with unauthorized access to data during memory processing. This development is particularly crucial for sectors like finance, healthcare, and government, where stringent regulations are in place.

Cohesity Data Cloud, the company’s flagship platform, has always integrated state-of-the-art technologies to assist major organizations in safeguarding their critical data from cyber threats. By teaming up with Intel, Cohesity aims to:

– Develop a distinctive solution to secure encryption keys in a hardware-protected environment using Intel SGX for cloud-based confidential computing.
– Significantly diminish the risk of data exfiltration by encrypting data during memory processing, rendering it inaccessible to privileged accounts.
– Enable Cohesity customers to validate the legitimacy of their Intel SGX through Intel® Trust Authority, which runs only the designated Cohesity application and incorporates the latest security patches before accessing the data encryption key.

Sanjay Poonen, Cohesity’s CEO and President, stated, “Collaborating with industry giants like Intel reinforces our position as a trusted partner for top-tier enterprises in enhancing business resilience. With Intel SGX, Intel Trust Authority, and confidential computing, our clients will experience heightened security and reduced risks in cloud environments, allowing them to concentrate on their core business operations.”

Greg Lavender, Executive Vice President and CTO at Intel Corporation, commented, “Cohesity’s adoption of our technology underscores the increasing demand for enhanced data protection in the cloud, aligning with our shared objective of offering a secure computing environment that meets customer expectations.”
